Shawn Burr (born Shawn Christopher Burr on July 1, 1966) was a professional ice hockey left winger.
He played in the NHL for parts of 16 seasons from 1985 to 2000.
Playing Career[]
Shawn was drafted in the first round (seventh overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
On August 17, 1995, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning with Detroit's third-round choice (which was later traded to the Boston Bruins who selected Jason Doyle) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Marc Bergevin and Ben Hankinson.
On June 21, 1997, Shawn was traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for San Jose's fifth-round choice (Mark Thompson) in the 1997 Entry Draft.
On August 4, 1999, he was traded back to the Tampa Bay Lightning along with Andrei Zyuzin, Bill Houlder and Steve Guolla in exchange for Niklas Sundstrom and the New York Rangers' third-round choice (that was previously acquired and later traded to Chicago who selected Igor Radulov) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
On July 26, 2000, Bill officially announced his retirement. In 2007, he was elected president of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association and was active in its efforts to raise money for children's charities in Metro Detroit. He was also the president of the Port Huron Icehawks IHL hockey organization.

Personal Life[]
Shawn was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and lived there until his hockey career began.
On February 27, 2011, it was reported that he was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, which in some cases requires a bone marrow transplant.
Shawn successfully completed chemotherapy and was reportedly cancer free, but however, it returned the following year.

On August 5, 2013, Shawn passed away after a fall in his home caused massive brain trauma.
